By now, almost everyone has heard of WordPress. WordPress is free web software built by thousands of community volunteers that you can be used to build a website that is not only beautiful, but effective at representing and building an online presence.
WordPress has been used by over 60 million people worldwide (Source: https://en-ca.wordpress.org/) from individual blogs, to small businesses, to corporations and chains. You can blog, sell items online, start forums, etc. Anything you choose, you can do it with WordPress.
Why do I choose to build WordPress Websites?
I have been working with WordPress for several years now and have built many websites from scratch using WordPress. There are several reasons why I choose to work with WordPress:
1. Affordability:
Number one on any entrepreneur’s list (even if they don’t say it out loud). A WordPress website itself is free, once you have a web domain and a web hosting package (fees that you have to pay for any type of website).
From experience, the complete cost of configuring a new WordPress website will be a lot less than having a custom website built from a custom template with custom coding.
2. Flexibility:
WordPress is very versatile and can be installed on most hosting services. This is important for businesses to look more professional by not having unwanted extensions added to their domain address by some of the other free website options, for example mydomain.freewebsite.com.
3. Search Engine Optimization (SEO) Features:
WordPress, unlike other free website building tools I have seen, has exceptional built in SEO capabilities. When configured and utilized properly, it isn’t hard to increase the ranking of your site on search engines by using WordPress’ SEO features.

4. Endless Features:
WordPress has thousands of available add-ons called “Plugins”. If you can think of a feature you want to add to your site, I can almost guarantee there is a pre-built plugin for it.
Some popular plugins allow you to set membership access controls to your site, e-commerce store to sell products online, visually appealing banners, video galleries, photo galleries, YouTube galleries, and the list goes on and on!
5. Security:
I cannot stress how important security is, especially when it comes to online data. When configured and maintained correctly, WordPress can be a very secure web platform.
6. Integration with Social Media:
WordPress websites also allows you to seamlessly connect to all your Social Media streams. You can see on my website I have my Twitter feed updating in real-time, as well as Facebook. I also have links to my LinkedIn, and could also include other streams like YouTube, Instagram, Tumblr, etc.
7. Learnability:
I aim to always be honest and transparent in my business. I am not a genius, I am just a hard-working individual who has spent hours and hours learning and practicing with WordPress to learn how to build websites, and studying trends and techniques to increase the effectiveness of the website itself.
Because WordPress allows more options for my customers, I feel it’s the best solution. If they decide they would like to take on learning WordPress themselves, I offer my consulting services and teach them how to do the basics, up to as much as they’re willing to learn.
WordPress provides customers with this option, where custom websites built by custom web designers may not. It also allows them to work with any other WordPress web designer, should they decide to.
